One and a half weeks ago, we had a clog fixed in the main sewage line our powder room. We live in a a condo and had two separate plumbers come out to fix the problem. The first plumber snaked the bathroom sink and the toilet and another plumber had to come with a large machine and snake the main line under the toilet. This entailed removing the toilet fixture.

Since the unclogging, there has been a nasty smell in the bathroom. (sewage) At first, I thought it was something lingering under the toilet, so I removed the toilet again and cleaned under it and the pipe leading to the sewer. The smell remained. Next I cleaned out the drain pipe under the sink and found some sewage refuse in the drain. However, still there is a stench. We tried all sorts of air fresheners, but then we get a perfumy sewage smell.

Any clues on what to do? I think the smell is coming from the sink now (it drains into the same pipe as the toilet), but I can't figure out 1) Why it started now and 2) HOW TO STOP THIS PERVASIVE SMELL! :(

Thanks,

marlowe

Sounds like you may have a clog of the vent pipe on the roof above that bathroom.
If a vent pipe is clogged, any water running through the drain/waste/vent system will siphon trap water out of your sink or tub trap to create another "vent", which will allow sewer gas back into your bathroom.
Go up on the roof and clear the vent pipe of any birds nest, leaves or debris that may be clogging it that you can reach by hand, and flush it with a water hose sprayer.
