I am planning on purchasing the above two tools. I think I have narrowed the jointer to Jet, Delta, or Powermatic and the planer to Delta's new 13" 2-Speed or Dewalts 12 1/2" planer. Any comments to the above and any suggestions where to get the best prices.
Thanks in advance,
PS Also would think about a good table saw for use in limited space. I hear Ryobi with the sliding fence is good.

Tim,
If you haven't been to these 2 forum sites (http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ and http://talk.woodmagazine.com/woodtalkindex.html) already they are worth searching out and reading the multiple posts on the above tools. Bottomline is that any of those tools you want will be good ones and the difference is probably not worth fretting over. Best prices are usually in conjunction with a rebate offer or like Woodcraft stores occasional 10% off sales. It varies so you'll just have to keep your eyes open for the deal. Amazon.com is usually pretty consistent in best pricing. Toolseeker.com may give you some leads.

You can't go wrong with the Jet or Delt jointers. I have the Jet 6" and its a great machine. I have the Delta 580 two speed 13" planer. It is a great planer with some nice features. The two speeds do make a difference. The blades are very easy to change. Its a little heavy and it would be a stretch to call it portable. I have seen it sell for around $400. I know a lot of people like the Ryobi table saw, but it does not have a miter slot, and the motor in my opinion is a little undersized. I would recommend looking at the Jet or Delta contractors saw. These saws are more suitable to woodworking.
happy woodworking,
Brian:)
