I am installing a new whirlpool. The manafacturer recommends the use of mortar under the tub for full support. In reviewing the dimensions, the mortar can be up to 3" thick toward the front. This seems like a lot of mortar and a lot of weight. What type of mortar should be used and what are your thoughts about this much mortar? The tub is about 15 1/2" high, and the recommended frame height is 18 1/2". Could the frame possibly be reduced in height in order to use less mortar?

Follow manufacturer's instructions carefully. Failure to do so will void warranties. Use plaster or mortar mix as instructed to level and support the tub.
