Is "vinyl laminate flooring" the same sort of thing as a "pergo-type" floor? I was confused when someone mentioned "vinyl" laminate floor.

Generally, laminated flooring products that have a veneer of real wood are referred to as "engineered" wood floors. Products that have a plastic or melamine surface are referred to as "laminates." Laminated products are manufactured by uniting several thin layers together, such as in the manufacture of plywood. Vinyl floor coverings are generally available in sheets, tiles, and planks.
