Help! My basement and the stairs to the basement are carpeted with very old, worn, stained carpet. I want to rip it all up but the carpet must have been glued down to both the cement in the basement and the wood on the stairs. What is the best way to get it to come up? The carpet is already ruined so I'm not worried about it coming up in bits and pieces.

They make chemicals to debond the glue. Panda, detach, and hy will tune in with peel-away 5 in a second.

The only problem with them, they are very toxic! Also if you plan on gluing anything to the subfloor again, it could cause bonding ans adhesive problems.

Take a razor knife, and cut strips down the carpet. Get a pair of pliers or vise-grips and while one person pulls another persone is scraping right at the bonded glue with a flooring, razor scraper.
