reupholstering a safa but the new materual is lighter wight than the the old fabric. The problem is the back of the sofa where there is just the fram. What can I use to give it more weight and to make it hold fitmer against the back?

Baste upholstery material to an underlayment material like muslin before installing. Basting stitches can be snipped an removed once the upholstery is installed.
