I have a 14' by 20' room I am preparing to lay 3/4" hardwood in.
The problem I have is the front 4' by 14' of the room was originally the front porch, and while it has a stable subfloor, it is sloped towards the front of the house, and ends up being 3" or more lower than the rest of the room.

How do I fix this so the whole hardwood floor installation will be even?

Thanks for any help....

tear up the subfloor and inspect the structure. If their is not anything obvious to bring the floor up then either reset the joists or sister new joists in to the existing joists........Also check to see if the support posts for the porch are installed correctly with proper footings.

I had a similar situation in an old house. The back porch had been closed in and turned into a laundry room. I needed a mudroom and an extra bathroom. The contractor tore the room down to the studs and installed tapered sleepers to accommodate a new plywood subfloor that was the level of the kitchen that adjoined the area. No one would have ever known that the floor once sloped.
