Can anyone offer their experience on what is easier and least time consuming for wallpaper removal? Steamers look the easiest and most environmentally preferable. But, I can only find good advice for methods using solvents. I have plaster walls (for the most part) and I'd like to paint them once the wallpaper is removed.
I understand the solvent methods work best when you work on only a small (2' x 2' - ish) patch at a time. Can I get more coverage, faster, with as good quality using a steamer?
Any advice would be great!

In my experience, plaster can be a dream for removing old wall-paper. Old papered over paper is the easiest to remove. If you are lucky enough to be dealing with that, just ease a 4 inch scraper under a loose seam, and start easing off the paper.
But you prbably have very expensive, high gloss, durable, washable wall-paper, life being what it is. This type of paper has to be thoroughly scored whatever method you use. I find steamers very easy to use on plaster walls. Remember to protect the floors thoroughly; steamed paper will stick to any surface as it dries.

I will give that a shot. So, I assume you'd recommend the steamer over solvents in this case?
I appreciate the encouraging thoughts on removing it from plaster. And the tip re: the floor is very important to us, as we need to refinish our floors too! I'll see how much of the wallpaper we can tackle before doing the floors.
Thanks again!
