I had to remove and replace drywall on part of a wall. Now I have a textured drywall / unfinished drywall joint. How should I finish this joint?

I'm considering sanding down enough texture to mud and tape the joint.

I have never been sucessful removing texture on a large area and getting it to matchup perfectly. Assuming your new wall is solid (does not move), I would forget the corner tape, and just mud the new wall.
