I have two sets of doors in my family room on either side of a ornately mantled fireplace. They are double similar to French doors except only one side opens. The other is a door sized window. I live in a remote rural area, so I do not want to block the view of our lovely woods behind the house (not to mention block the sunlight!) What I need to know is: what do you think I could do as a lovely "window" treatment atop these windows/doors. Do I dare put a cornice or valance treatment so it falls just above the top of the door when it is opened (they open inward.) If so, what?? I am at a loss. These really are "windows" and look very bare with nothing.

What about some sort of greenery above the doors, that slightly falls to the sides. I have a friend who did this and it looks very nice. And it does not obstruct the opening of the doors.
