Is it possible to cut a section out of my garage floor (concrete slab)? Basically I want to a 40" x 80" x 5" (deep) pit in the center of my garage. "Bottom" of the pit still needs to be concrete.
Why? To install a car lift in.
I know nothing about garage foundations. Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes, you can do that, but my advice would be to have a concrete guy come in and cut it for you. It takes a special concrete saw with a diamond blade, the saw weights about 15 lbs, and it is a terrible dusty job. The dust will be so thick, you will not be able to see your hand 12" in front of your face. After the saw is done a electric jack hammer will have to be sued to break it up. This is not a fun job.

If I were you, I would install an above ground (like a Challenger) lift.
