I am in the middle of trying to remove the finish from an old table to repair water damage. I am using sand paper to accomplish this but the task is harder than expected. The finish keeps clogging up the sand paper. Is there an easier way to remove the finish and then sand the wood. The finish seems to get sticky when it is subjected to the heat of the abrasive sand paper of belt sander.

daveishere,
A chemical stripper would probably work quicker. Be sure to us a plastic putty knife - less likely to gouge the wood.
Then you can fine tune the top by sanding.
