My wife and I just bought a new house. In the smallest bedroom there is a border in the middle of all the walls. We want to remove it so we can paint. So we scored the border and then used a steamer. But when we started peeling it off, the paint and the drywall was coming off too. I don't know what kind of adhesive was used for this border.
Does anybody know how best to remover a border like this without removing the paint and drywall too?
Thanks for any help!!
Derek

Start by getting rid of the steamer. Peel only the surface layer of the border off. Then wet down the backing material with hot water and dishwashing soap. Wet the surface until it can't hold any more water. Wait 5 minutes and repeat. After 5 more minutes attempt to scrape the backing material off with a broad putty knife.
If you still see wall damage, proceed lightly as you can until the border is totally off the wall and repair any damaged areas with joint compound. Best of luck:D.
