Few questions.... I have a small shed roof I need to replace. I have a whopping total of 80 sq ft. How many squares will I need to complete this? Also for the gable ends or sides ....do I put the drip edge on after I've laid the shingles?

One square = 10' X 10' = 100 sq. ft.
One square may do it. You always need extra for ridge cap, doubled starter course, waste and trim, and matching spare shingles for storm damage (IF any are left over).
Strip off the old roofing, felt and drip edge.
Install the drip edge first, then the roofing felt, then the shingles.

One square = 100 square feet or a 10x10 area. If you are using a 3 tab shingle you will need three bundles. The roofing felt goes on first and then the metal edge and then the shingles.

I defer to roofrat, a pro roofer (I'm not).
I always thought that the drip edge went on first (I've seen it done both ways).
His way is obviously "righter" than my way. LOL

Thanx much folks! I've seen the side drip edge tacked on both ways. In the "do it yourself" shingle instruction they state the shingles go underneath the sides and over the eve's drip edge.

You are correct Old Guy metal edge can be installed either on top of the felt or over the felt. We like to see the metal edge go on before the felt at the bottom of the roof and over the felt along the edges. But then again some people like ford trucks and some people like chevy trucks.

When we tear off old shingles where drip edge was installed first on the sides, we usually see stained plywood where water has blown in between the paper and the drip edge. With drip edge on top of paper on sides, water should shed on the paper. Bottom of roof you would want any moisture to shed over both paper and edging so paper would go over the edging. Not worth arguing over, but we've done lots of roofing.
