I'm considering installing radiant floor heating in my 1400 sq. ft. home. My question is whether I should go with a high-efficiency water heater to supply the hot water for the floor and also for the domestic hot water supply.

I've read some on the Web about problems people have had, especially with ignitors, with the Polaris high-efficiency water heater. To me, water heaters should require little maintenance during their life time, and certainly not a $100 - $150 repair.

I currently have a bolier supplying baseboard heat. It's about 10 years old, but working fine. But at that life span, its days are numbered. My current water heater needs replacing -- it is no longer meeting our hot water needs (about 12 years old).

I like the idea of replacing two appliances with one high-efficiency appliance. But I'm also a little nervous about relying on the Polaris given what I've read about it. And also I'm not sure there is anyone in the area that services it.

Advice, anyone?

Thanks.
