how do i go about removing paint from a fireplace that has been painted, not sure if oil or water based, without a whole lot trouble. would like to bring it back to original brick look if possible. is there something on the market i can use. thought about sand blasting but sounds like a whole lota mess. also not sure if it would damage the brick. thanks for any replies

There is a product out on the market called "Peel Away". I have contacted them and they recommend "Peel Away 7" to remove paint from brick surfaces. I have not tried it yet, but have ordered it. Check out www.paintremoval.com for more info. Hope this helps. dwc

I just tried to remove paint from my fireplace and it was the worst time I ever had. You can not get it out of all the spots and had a guy come in and told me either snad blast or some sort of acid. I ended up refacing it with z brick it was the easiest and cheapest way to do it.
