I'm refinishing a hardwood floor and used a drum and edge sander. After applying a stain, the area around the perimeter where the edge sander was used is noticeably darker than the rest of the floor. Any assistance on what would have caused this and how it can be remedied would be greatly appreciated.

An edger will take off more material than a drum sander. Did you go down or up to the same grit with the drum sander as you did the edger? you may be able to lighten the outside edge two ways.
1> lightly sand the area to blend it. or 2 soak a clean lint free towel in de-natured alcohol and wipe the outside edge but be carefull not to take off to much stain in one area or it will look blotchy.
