I am wanting to take an 8' x 18" bar (snack) table top and put a table base on each end that bolts in to the floor. I have not made a determination yet as to what type of table top (formica, marble, ect.) I will have. For support purposes would the two table bases be enough and how far away from the end should I place the bases?

How thick will the top be? And of what material?

Depending on thickness and material, two pedastals may not be enough.

Hi,
I can't remember what the correct name for the type of construction this is. The plan is to make a box frame to the size you need, (minus any laminate or veneer you apply) from a good grade of 3/4" plywood which has cross braces the length of it across its width, and a sheet of lauan plywood is used for a "skin on the top and bottom of the frame. The plywood makes it stable for any laminate or veneer to be applied. It becomes light weight while remaining ridgid. you most likely could make the legs the same way. You could probably figure a way to make the legs to be fastened permanent or maybe hinged or detachable.
Just some ideas. try your library for some ideas, it's free usally.
good luck,
Trent
