I am bilding a tilt top table from a picture I saw in a magazine. It is a mahogony finish with a faux leather top with a grapevine design painted around the border. What is the best way to create the leather finish? It appears that they probably used a crackle finish... but I was wondering if I should use a painting technique, or perhaps the technique of wallpapering pieces of paper bag to the wood? Any other ideas? If I wanted to use real leather how would I go about that?
