I have Aspen moulding that I want to stain.
It is blotching and splotching.
How should I prepare the wood before putting a staiin on it to prevent this.

Many of the softer woods - pine, aspen , alder, need a pre-stain conditioner. This will help in eliminating most of the blotchiness.
Minwax makes one.
