I grouted my new ceramic tile floors and the grout dried lighter than the swatch indicated... I mean a lot lighter!
Except for the areas that I had to go back over and smooth out - those areas dried the color of the swatch. I am very confused. Any ideas what caused this? Is there a haze on the grout itself? Is there anything I can do to get it back to the proper color?

Hi
Ahhh..grouting..everyone's favourite!;) ...there are a number of reasons this happens...too wet a mixture...too much water used during clean up....or something called efflorescence. This is what happens when the tile you selected doesn't absorb any water(porcelain)...the chemicals in the grout(latex, salts, other minerals) have no where to go but up to the surface of the joint, since the water can't soak into the tile. The result is blotchy grout joints..some places ok...some too light...or even white. It's not an easy thing to fix....you can try scrubing it with SULFAMIC ACID CRYSTALS..you can get this at Home depot. This is a mild acid solution..so be careful..and follow the directions on the jar. If that doesnt work..you may have to use a grout colorant...Aqaxmix works really well.
