I wanted to paint over the wallpaper in my bathroom but when I began to remove the border ,the wallpaper came off also.there is drywall underneath it that has now been torn.What do I do now?? Plaster?? Please help!

Just wondering...Why do you prime wallpaper before painting??What are you trying to seal??...Thanks!!:D

Its best that the wallpaper came down. We strongly discourage painting wallpaper. If the paper hadn't come down with the border, then you would probably have had problems after it was painted.

Here in the States, most paints are acrylic latex (water-based). The water in these paints will cause the wallpaper paste to weaken. Priming with an oil-based primer seals the paper from the water in acrylic paints. The primer will also provide a better bond for the paint than the paper. This is especially critical for the vinyl papers so popluar here. The primer will also prevent any bleed-thru of the dyes. Bleed-thru is unlikely but it could happen with some papers. I suppose one could use oil-based paints, but the acrylic paints are far superior.
