After trying to find something on Consumer Reports, I cannot get recommendations on the best paint for the money. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Have a look here...

Ask friends and neighbours...stop by a house someone IS painting (exterior) and politely ask them the pros and cons of their choice(s) and past experience. Don't buy cheap. Buy the best quality that your budget will allow. Primers are often forgotten and some of the best are not made by the big 5 manufacturers either.

Moores, Sherwin Williams, Pratt and Lambert, ICI, PPG ...topline paints by most reputable companies are worth the investment. Box store brands are usually made by ICI or Sherwin Williams or the like. Moores make just their brand only as does Pratt and Lambert so far as I know. They do one thing and usually do it well. Good shopping. :D

What you ask is subjective as it depends on how one values their time. When you factor in time to paint as well how many years before you need to repaint, the cheap paints get to be pretty expensive.

Have you tried the search function for this site? This question has been asked many times. The consistant answers are Sherwin-Williams, Pratt&Lambert, and Ben Moore for national brands. DeVoe is a very good regional brand. I've heard of a good regional brand available in the western US but the name escapes me right now.

Get the paint from a paint store. Avoid the big boxes.

As I recall, Consumers Reports likes the house brands of the major discount stores. You won't find them recommended by the regulars on this site.

Behr and Ralph Lauren paints seem to run about 50/50 for good/bad reviews.

i would not be digging too deep to find THE BEST paint , i sold paint for 12 years for four companies most top quality paints are the same or very similar
what you need to do is prepare the surface properly-this is the most important thing a $50 gal of paint will fail if poor prep was done
second buy your paint from a paint store-u usually get well informed advice
buy the paint that best suits the job and your pocket book
