I painted a backdrop on canvas which a client would like adhered to their bedroom wall. I'm looking for advice on what adhesives and/or techniques would be best. can't seem to find anyone who attempted this before!! thanks.

Not speaking from experience, here's what I would do:
Dry hang this product! That is, paste the wall, allow a few minutes for it to tack up and apply the canvas. I would even recommend that you use the least water content adhesive you can. Clay is the best, but if you use another type, use it full strength without diluting. Smooth the canvas with a bristle smoothing tool. You will have to judge/adjust the amount of pressure on the tool, hopefully with a scrap or an inconspicuous spot so minimal bleed through occurs. Any bleed through adhesive could cause staining.

The scenic artists at the BBC used to get us to stretch the canvas tight over a wooden frame stapled at the back and then attatch the frame to the wall...It could be that your customer will not accept this method...but its worth a try asking!! Remind him/her that it will prove an absolute nightmare to remove it in the future if it is stuck on!!...If you do stick it on, it is best to attach it to the frame (image reversed) first...glue the wall and press the mural onto glue (frame facing out) smooth flat dispelling any trapped air...Leave overnight and then remove the staples from the back of the frame(facing you) thus removing it the following day..then glue back the edges..This way your mural will hang properly streched..
If you decide to do this then at least line the wall first..That way it will be easier removed in the future..Personally I would use a dry contact adhesive like Evo stick. Dont forget that with contact adhesive, both surfaces must have adhesive spread thinnly and evenly to them and allowed to dry before pressing and smoothing!!
