How can I remove liquid stripped finish from a piece of
furniture in the most environmentally sound way? I want to use only
matierials that I can dispose of in a community toxic waste site.
Can I use paper towels for example?
Any advice/suggestions will be appreciated.

I use paper towels myself, preceeded by scraping (with a stiff putty knife) all the removable debris first.

My next step is 0000 steel wool dipped in lacquer thinner, followed by paper towels, first wet with lacquer thinner, then dry, to get the last bit off.

BTW - I use the aluminum dispoable pie pans to catch the debris I scrape off - it all (steel wool towels and debris) goes into a plastic trash bag.

I bought a product called "Klean-Strip/KleenKutter" and it worked better
than the "Bix" product I originally had. However, it left a white stain on
the wood when I removed the dissolved finish. Could someone please
explain this white stain and how I can remove it?
