If you allow a 3/4" plywood underlayment + a backer board + the tile is this too much? Also, can you install a cast iron sink over ceramic tile?:confused:

Your in spec with underlay + board. You could use either 1/4" or 1/2" board. Your ok with cast iron also. Make sure you give mortar time to set up before grouting and attaching sink, 24 to 48 hrs.
