HELP! I'd like to remove a red brick fire surround and replace it with a simple wooden mantlepiece, can someone please give me some help as i'm a DIY virgin! The current surround comes out into the room, would it be ok to just remove these bricks, then fix a wooden surround to the wall? Is this going to be a big job or is it relatively easy? I'm a bit woried about the condition of the wall after the bricks have been removed- is it likely to need re-plastering? help....!
