Help! I'm having serious problems with wallpaper removal. I have removed all the outer layer of the wallpaper and half the backing using just a scoring tool and the wallwick system. I can't get the backing off the other half though-- even when I use commercial wallpaper remover called DIF-- without removing the drywall too. I suspect that the wallpaper may have been applied directly to the dry wall or something. is it ok to paint over the backing that's still on the walls? and if so, how do I prepare the walls for painting and patch all the damaged areas of dry wall?:(

But the wallwick system is fast, easy, simple and effective!
It does sound as if you have paper that has been applied directly to drywall with no prep. My first advice is to give an honest effort to strip your backing material first. Don't waste money on "removal solutions". Go to my site and view the wallpaper stripping page. I would also recommend that you use a 4" spackle knife or wallpaper scraping blade to remove the backing material.
If after an honest try, you still have options. I would repair any really torn areas with joint compound. You can apply this with your new 4" spackle knife. After it is dry, sand it smooth. Then prime the entire wall. Use a top quality primer/sealer. Sherwin Williams' PrepRite or Zinsser's Gardz are good choices. DON'T save any money on this step or you will fail. Now your wall is 100% ready for your next step. Texture? Go for it as is. Paint or more wallpaper? You might be able to smooth the entire wall with joint compound and your spiffy spackle knife. If you can't, there is still hope. Bridging material to the rescue! This is a special blank wallpaper that will smooth any imperfections and provide a good base for paint or new wallpaper.
Where to get it? Most home improvement stores carry it. Ask for liner paper and they should be able to point you in the right direction. You can also save a few bucks and buy it online if you prefer from Cavalier Wall Liner (http://www.wallliner.com/wall_liner2.html). If you need to know how much to order, there is an estimation chart on my website. Best of luck with your project.
