My living room and dinning room are connected as one room. The only division is carpet and vinyl flooring. I would like to "seperate" the room using a border, but don't know how to. If you have any suggestions, thanks. Tammy

I am not an interior design type, but here is my two cents:

You are looking for separation between two rooms. This may be accomplished utilizing a border. You will have to keep in mind that you will want a border that appeals to you when it is used in a vertical fashion. There are borders that will suit your needs out there, but it may be a tad more difficult that looking for a normal horizontal border.

I would recommend sticking with geometric designs. These type of designs generally don't have an "up" or "down" You will also want to pay careful attention to the edges of the border. Many borders have a heavier stripe design pattern along the top or bottom of the border. This will enhance the separation of the rooms; you must decide whether you like that design element as well. If you don't, choose a border that isn't too busy on the top or bottom of the border.

Once you have your border, apply border adhesive to the back of it and put it up on the wall. Be sure its level vertically! Smooth with a plastic smoothing tool, and be sure to remove 100% of the excess adhesive off of the existing paint or wallpaper. Trim with new razor knife, using the smoother as a guide.

Another option would be some type of molding as well, you can find a bazillion of these at home improvement stores. If you don't like the natural wood feel, paint it.

Best of luck in any event.
