I have purchased an old table to refinish.
This is the first time.... It has rings on the top where a
paint can was sitting for a long time, also some dark areas.
How can I get these out?

Mankie:
First, remove all the finish (if it's not already gone).
Use oxalic acid for the stains.
Depending on what kind of wood you're dealing with, you may want to use a wood conditioner before restaining. In softwoods (such as pine and birch) it helps the new stain absorb more evenly

Thanks for the quick response to my questions on my old table.
After sanding for a while on it. I am not so sure it is oak like the seller said! However it is a very unique table and worth the trouble to fix. Thanks Again!
