I recently moved and since then, I've been having trouble with my Sony bigscreen. I moved the TV myself and I'm afraid I knocked something out of whack. Any advice would be helpful.

The set worked perfectly before the move, but since then, it doesn't function properly. Here are the symptoms.

When the TV is first turned on after a long period of no-use, the picture is fine. But within a few minutes, I get a blue shadow effect as though the convergence is out of whack. However, when I check the convergence, this is what I notice. The green and red lines can be aligned perfectly, but the blue horizontal line is noticably shorter than the red and green horizontal lines. Basically, the blue component of my video is being compressed horizontally. I can tell because when words from the on-screen display are showing, the words are narrower in the blue, than they are in the red & green.

I'm hoping this is something simple and not too costly since I'm basically broke. But I am mechanically inclined and willing to try this repair myself if someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks for any replies.

Good Morning, slicky:

Doesn't sound serious. When I hear of this type of deflection problem, I tend to think about "blanking". I would recommend you open up the unit and check to see if a wire came loose during the move. I'd be looking in and around the blue projection gun at the deflection yoke or the circuit board on the end of the tube.

And, check your ground connections. Check around the convergence circuitry as a second thought.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

o.k. I've opened up the unit and looked inside. I slid out the cabinet that has all the boards and this is what i saw. I didn't notice any loose wires or connections. I looked around the blue tube, the board attached to it and the control board and all wire connections looked ok. I did notice a buzzing sound coming from the side that has the blue tube. On the board that has the thick red cables coming from it, there are what look like transformers and heat sinks. It sounded like the buzzing sound was coming from there.

Any suggestions?

Good Afternoon, slicky:

I've been doing some research on your problem and came up with some probables.

This series of Sony Projection TV had problems with the convergence board and suffers from bad solder connections, blown fuses, and failed IC's. Since this all started with a move, the first suspect is a failed solder connection.

Look on the backside of the board for bad solder connections. If you note any, a little 60-40 electronic solder and a low heat soldering iron will help fix the problem. You should note a couple of fuses on the board. Either one of them blown? In worse case, there are numerous cases where the only fix was to replace both convergence IC's.

Good evening, Smokey,

Do you know where the convergence IC is ? to be more specific,
which board is the IC on ?

I had a similar problem one time before, and someone help me
replacd the IC called "Palbue" or "Bealue" chip. My projector TV
starts to have this problem again. Try to location the IC without
a manu, but no luck. Can you help? I appreciate it.

Good Morning, slicky:

What you need is a manual on this machine. According to my sources, this site is able to obtain the manual for you at a reasonable price, has secure ordering, etc.

Give it a look at
