Can I take a 12HP riding lawnmower engine and put it on a go kart frame and make it work? Would it do alright? I don't know much about these things right now, but if it could work then I could learn.

I was wondering if anyone knows about painting over brass? I have a brass lamp that I would like to either paint all shiny brass color, a gold color, or something. It looks very 1970ish to me. I is regular brass and antique brass. Any ideas?
