Hi All,
I am interested in starting a vegetable garden up here in the great white north. Any suggestions for a zone 1 newbie?
What veggies grow best? I am thinking about using a greenhouse or a half a dozen cold boxes ( easier to store).
Any help would be appreciated!
thanks!

Hi Labonteak!
I am a Zone 7 "Newbie", so I can't help you myself, but I certainly can pass on the help I got - if you go to google.com and search "Zone 1 Gardening", there will be lots of stuff you can browse. It worked for me!
"Gami", a Do It Yourself Member, is the one who steered me there.
Good luck!

Hi North Garden Gal,
Go girl! :D See how easy it is!!!
Hi Labonteak,
I don't believe I've ever encountered anyone asking a question from zone 1 before. I could find it, but any idea what your growing time frame is?

Haven't come across many other z1'ers, but glad to see ya. Sounds like a challenge, but definitely possible.

A few general links you may or may not already have:
List of z1 gardening sites http://gardening.about.com/cs/msub67/
Another good forum specifically for northern gardeners http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/north/
An excellent post on winter seed sowing that relates to all zones. Also gives info about spotting cold-hardy plant names. http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/wtrsow/msg012322147069.html
My only personal tip: for tomatoes, use the red plastic sheeting mulch - it really works wonders to make the most of sun energy.
Good luck with it!
