My subfloor is 1/2" plywood under 1/4" laun. On top of the laun is a glued down tile floor (no asbestos). The tile is in bad shape and it needs to be removed, so that I can glue down some Brazilian Cherry strip flooring.
I am not looking forward to removing the mastic that holds down the tile. Instead, I would like to run my circular saw around the perimeter of the room to cut away most of the 1/4" laun and simply replace it. If I do this, I would be unable to remove roughly 2" inches of the laun around the perimeter of the room.
My concern with this approach is that the outer edge of the new laun and the inner edge of the old laun will not rest on the joists, so that the screws I sink around these edges will not securely attach the laun to the plywood. Can I apply construction adhesive to these edges to secure it to the plywood?
Thanks in advance for your words of wood-laying wisdom!
