Hi, I have a 36" Zenith that just stopped turning on. The last time I watched it everything was fine and now it won't come on. It makes a clicking sound when you push the power button like it has turned on and turned right back off. We took the back off of it and the sound seems to be coming from a little black box. We would like to be able to fix it ourselves if it just needs replacing. Can someone tell me what that little box is and if it is possible to repair on our own. The TV is about three years old. The model no. is Z36X31. Thanks.

by the sound of your post, it seems you have little experience with electronics. Please be very cautious. TV's have high voltages that can be very unfriendly to living things. My suggestion is pull the plug and get the back, back on the set. Take it to a pro. There are no user serviceable parts in today's sets. You need the proper equipment, test meters and knowledge to isolate problems.

The clicking you are hearing is a relay. The fact that the set is not coming on sounds like it may be a power supply issue.

Any ideas about cost? The tv is only 3 years old. Is this a regular problem with this model? I have never had a problem with the set until now. I was watching it in the morning and when I turned in back on in the afternoon it just wouldn't work.

Zenith TV's are notorious for bad solder joints. This could be your problem. Can't say cost, as it is determined by the time a tech will have to spend with the unit, and what he finds. Call around for 3 estimates. Most charge to look at the set but will refund the estimate cost if you use them to service the unit.
