I have a panasonic projection tv model PT51G53W, just three years old. About 3 weeks ago a faint line started across the top two or three inches of the screen and then a week later the top inch or two was black. Today I turned on the tv and there is sound, but no picture. How bad is this and about how much will it cost to repair. I don't want a repair man to come and overcharge me because I'm a woman and don't know what's wrong with it. Any help would be great. Thanks Charlay

Good Morning, charlay:
The problem appears to be oriented toward the vertical driver section of the TV. These projection units are good in the respect that the failure of one of the drives (horizontal or vertical) and the set shuts down to protect itself.
I don't perceive this as being terribly expensive to repair. I would think that a simple board replacement will solve the problem.

will give you some ideas on where to look of you want to get a service manual on the unit.

Thanks so much for helping with my problem. After hearing from you I was not afraid to call a repair man to look at the set. Luckily he said that my TV (panasonic projection big screen) has a tendency for the souders on the boards to be weak. He found the problem, resoudered all the wires and it works as good as new. Better yet he only charged $40.00. It's great knowing there is somewhere to go to ask questions. Thanks again, Charlay:)

Good evening, charlay:
Thank you for the kind words. This site is manned by professional volunteers. We receive no pay for our help to others. It is just our way of helping the "average" person to avoid getting beat to death on household repairs.
As for bad solder connections, these are common in the Japanese sets. You found a good technician who works at a better than great price. Send him a Christmas card.
Have a good day and come back to visit us now and then.
