Not sure if this is the right forum for this...
I want to build a patio cover over an existing concrete patio/pool deck. I'll probably use some type of pvc cover, so the load will be primarily the framing lumber. We live in a non-snow area, so now snow-load concerns.
My question is how to attach the posts to the concrete slabs. Simpons Strong-Tie's web site shows post anchors that are attached by drilling a 1/2" hole & epoxying a threaded bar which connects to a post base which is nailed to the post. Is this really stable?
Since the patio is slightly pitched for drainage, where do I get my degrees of freedom to make sure the posts are perfectly vertical?
Are there any products out there to conceal the base of a 4x4 (or larger) post? I suspect leaving the metal anchor exposed is going to be unsightly.
Thanks,
Dan.

Dan,
You're on the right track.
Anchor the posts to the concrete by using a masonry drill to drill anchor holes, and bolt the post down into them.
I have something similar (to a p-t wood deck), and I used L-shaped steel plates with holes in them attached to the deck and posts.
I boxed mine in with 1X6 boards, and it looks good (hides all).
Good luck with yours.
Mike
