Does anyone know how to remove water stains from a french polished table top ?

I'm assuming (always dangerous) the stains are whitish in appearance and in the finish rather than in the wood.

If this is the case and the stains are relatively new, a liberal coating of mayonaise - not salad dressing (left on overnight) and then wiped clean may do the trick.

If not, a paste of baking soda and water, rubbed over the area with a damp sponge will remove the marks, but also dulls the sheen. The sheen may be restored using Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and Scratch Remover according to the directions on the can. Apply over the entire top for uniformity of appearance.

Or, you can contact someone locally who knows how to do French Polishing (a dying art) and have them refinish the table.
