Getting fuzzy picture and red streak down center. Had tubes cleaned-no help. They came out and filled tubes with oils - too much power went to TV and was told blew out conversion board and took tv to their service center. They said they repaired conversion board but still have red streak and they want to return to me. This all started in Nov. and it is now Feb. TV is about 7 years old. I am a female and don't know anything about TV's does this sound like something that could happen?

Pat that is possible, but it's more likely the convergence board needed a couple of IC's replaced on it. These IC's can cause all sorts of problems with lines and colors on the screen. The convergence IC's keep the colors aligned so you don't have rainbows, (or streaks), around faces on the screen, Sounds like your set may have additional problems with the correction voltages needed to converge the picture. Depending upon the labor rate of the shop working on your set, you could be looking at a lot more money for the repair. Convergence problems can lead to a lot of troubleshooting time which translates to more expense for you.
You may want to consider what the total expected cost of the repair will be and then weigh that against the price of a new set.

Judging from all the information given, I was wondering if this was a unit that has been subjected to video games. The streak down the middle tells me there might be a phospher burn involved on the projection tube.

Thank you for your reply. No video games have been played on the TV. The red streak looks like a tongue of fire vertically down the middle of the screen.
Thanks
Pat

Good Morning, Wastentime_pat:
Give me the make, model, and approximate model year of the unit so that I can research the data bases on this unit. Without this information, we can only speak in general terms.
