Can someone please help me. I'd like to try repairing my tv, but I have not a clue as to where to start.

Let me give you some history:

I have had it for about 4 years now, but we never left it on for long periods of time until the September 11 attack on the WTC.

All of the sudden the colors started getting all messed up. Everything had a pinkish/greenish cast to it.

Examples:

Skin tones looked pink and high contrast

Black had a green cast

white looked sort of light green

All of the text had a "green shadow" of sorts as if one would be seeing double but the second copy was green.

I tried correcting what seemed to be a convergence problem via a setting in the menu, but I could never get it corrected. I then found out what some of the "hidden" menu options were and I made some adjustments there.

I was able to rid myself of some of the high contrast so that at least the picture was watchable. After a few more weeks we then noticed that until the tv warmed up everything was deep pink and green.

Well, after a few months now we can only get sound. That is right. The tv now only gives me a black screen, and this is truly black.. No green cast about it like before.

I took the back off the tv and I can smell something like it was burning, and the red, green and blue lights are not coming on.

Can someone write me at maitrix59@hotmail.com to maybe give me some pointers.

Thanks

Dwayne

Good Morning, Maitrix:

Without getting into the unit, the symptoms indicate a loss of regulation in the low voltage power supply. This is indicated by the high contrast and sudden loss of color correction. The G-2
voltages on the projection tubes must have been way too high.

Of course, continuing to run the set with such a failure now has manifested itself in other circuit failures. The extent is hard to determine but it is significant enough that the unit has shut down completely. There is a better than even chance you have damaged the projection tubes, also. I would bet there is phospher burn involved here.

Not good! You can, of course, call around and get some estimates on the repair but I have a feeling that you will be out shopping for another set when you hear the prices.

Next time, think Mitsubishi.

Smokey ;)
