I have a bit of a problem. My friend and I built a bar using oak boards for the top and Oak veneer plywood for the face and sides. We stained it with Minwax golden oak oil based wood stain. Turns out this color is much too dark and i would like to either make it a few shades lighter, or remove all the stain and start over. There is trim moulding all around it, so sanding it is quite difficult and taking the bar apart is not an option as it would be easier to just rebuild the whole thing (plumbing, etc. and i REALLY dont want to do that)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

jvheitz,

First, it's always a good idea to test any stain on a piece of scrap lumber. Minwax's golden oak is not really that dark. You could have wiped some off with a clean cloth before it dried.
Now, about the only thing which may lighten it is either a two part wood bleach or possibly sodium hydroxide(lye). It will be difficult to remove all the stain and achieve a 100% uniform color.
good luck,
fred
