In the morning, I am the first person in my house (2 bedroom , 2 bath) to shower. By the time I finish a 10 minute shower, the hot water is typically almost always exhausted. I'm just starting to tackle this issue and would like some help identifying the possible problems that could be causing this. I suspect there could be another answer besides, "replace your water hearter" Thank you.

There are 3 possibilities for running out of hot water;

1. You need a new thermostat.

2. You need to adjust the thermostat.

3. You haven't drain the water heater and sediment has built up at the bottom of your tank and is affecting the thermostat.

The last is one of the least expensive thing that you can do and is the most common problem out of the three. All you have to do is drain a few gallons from the water heater.

you have an electric HWH---One of your elements is defective--if so replace both--if you are not comfortable working around 220 volts have some one do the work for you---incoming water has to shut off and pressure released from system.To relieve pressure open a hot water tap.If you need more info just holler.Per chance,if unit is gas,you should call a company and have a "TECH" check it and tune it.PDF

Missed a key one, a deteriorated dip tube. If the dip tube is damaged, the cold replenishment water will not be driven to the bottom of the heater tank, resulting in cold water flowing out the hot water side without mixing. Check by turning off water, disconnecting the cold water inlet on the water heater, and using your finger to pull the tube out of the cold water inlet. Part is inexpensive and can be cut to size.

Good luck:)
