Two related questions:

I have a 10-15 year old gas furnace that turns on and off every 5 to 10 minutes during the night (doesn't seem to do it much during the daytime). I have recently installed a new prgrammable thermostat and feel pretty sure that that is not the problem. I had a serviceman take a look at it and he said that he thought that since one of the return air ducts was crimped (it comes out of the top of the furnace and makes an upside down U...the U has turned into more of a V) that was my problem. Does his suggestion make sense?

Also he looked at my other furnace ductwork (under the house) and said that two of the ducts were crushed to about half of their original size. He recommended that these be fixed. Is this situation a big problem?

Try it...It's always good to replace or repair damaged duct work.
