Is there a site that will tell me how to light the pilot light on my gas heating stove. I cannot find my instruction book and would like to light it tonight and not wait to call the gas company tomorrow.

Hello lanne. Welcome to the Heating and Cooling forum and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Your posting lacks specific and sufficient information which is needed to determine the type of pilot system the unit has. The forum also has to assume the unit is a heater for heating the home and not a stove for cooking foods.

What type of heating system are you referring to exactly??

A Hydronic Hot Water Heating System using a standard tank?
Forced Hot Air Heating System? With or Without Air Conditioning?
Boiler Hot Water Heating System? With baseborad or radiators?
Electric Heat Pump Heating and Air Conditioning System?

In depth and detailed information regarding the problem, helps to explain the situation your dealing with in a manner that allows myself and or several other professionals, in this forum, to offer the best possible helpful suggestions and advice.

Also provide the units brand name, year, model, serial numbers, if available, type of ignition system and the location of the heating unit. Any and all detailed information would help greatly.

>>Please include details regarding any recent repairs made, if any, always are helpful details for those of us replying back to know.<<

Any and all additional detailed information you can provide may help to expose a clue regarding the heaters current problem and help us to determine the exact repair to the problem.

Your assistance in this matter would be beneficial.

To add more information, please use the REPLY button. By doing so, the additional information you add will remain within this posting {Thread} and allow the professionals in this forum to follow the topic and reply with helpful advice and suggestions.

Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem solving methods, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair proceedures and instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.

Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers if you stop in at the store. The info will help to determine the ignition system and possible problem causes.

Check among the RECENT postings and ARCHIVES, within this forum, for other postings on your topic, specific appliances problem or conditions and read the replies offered.

Chances are the topic, condition and or problem has already been covered in complete detail.

This was not my original post, but... the pilot light on my hot water tank went out yesterday. I turned the knob to pilot and pushed the red button in and lit a match under the pilot. When I held the red button down the pilot stayed lit, but as soon as I released the red button the pilot light went out. I tired this a few times, but always came out with the same results. I was told that it might be the thermal cupling (? spelling). Is there anything else that might cause this to happen. Also do you know where I can see a diagram of the location of the thermal cupling, pilot and burner- from descriptions it seems that something may have moved out of place, but I am not positive.
Thanks!
