I want to change my old oil furnace to a new high effic. gas furnace to make more room in the basement. (loose the oil tank for one thing) If I relocate the unit, is there a req. distance limit from the flue? req. pitch of pipe? and what about the new units that can vent thru plastic pipe to just outside (no chimney to roof)????? thanks for any input.

Hello Knizo and Welcome to the Heating and Cooling forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Your question is valid but extremely broad. In order to install any new or replacement furnace, it is absolutely essential to install the vent system per code and manufacturers instructions.

No two units nor installations applications may be exactly the same. Although, many like alike, each make and or model requires it's own venting system and installation method.

Best sources of information would be directly from the manufacturer of the specific brand, unit and model.

Another source would be a licensed installation professional for the brand and model and in your area. Also the local building and safety departments within your area.

Installing both the unit and the venting system, must meet all local codes and manufacturers requirements to insure safety, proper operations and to maintain the warranty.

Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, which may be available online.
