I have no heat and Im ready to buy a new furnace. So far so good. However, I have a question regarding a heating and cooling guy who gave me some information and need to verify it. He told me to connect the two thermostat wires and if they did not work or if a click from the blower did not occur then it could not be a transformer. I was confused because that and a voltage tester brought me to believe it was a transformer in the first place. If there was juice going to the thermostat then I never would have assumed it was a transformer in the first place. Did I miss something? Was he afraid I would fix the part rather than pay for a new furnace? It really doesnt matter because I'll probably buy a new one soon I just want to know if this guy was giving me B*** S***.

If you touch the two thermostat wires together, it will do one of two things.... it will either come on , or not do a thing. if it comes on then its more then likly your T-Stat... if it doesnt, then it could be a transformer, an open Limit switch, a bad wire, or no power to furnace.
