Type of pilot ignition assembly- spark or hot surface?

Sounds like spark ign - clicks off if the pilot fails to light, recycles 'til the piot lights.

Could be foreign matter in the pilot gas line, or a leak at the pilot line/control fitting.

I'd opt for cleaning the pilot orifice first.
