I bought a file cabinet from an unfinished furniture place and trying to match the finish on my cabinets. The color of stain is OK but when I applied the lacquer finish by spray can it seems like I kicked up a lot of dust. Would I be better off sanding the spray lacquer and then using a brush type lacquer?

Cleanliness isn't just next to godliness - it's next to near perfect finishes, too!
Aerosoles are by far the easiest way to go, but if you can't eliminate the dust problem, brush on lacquer won't help. Because it goes on in a heavier coat, it takes longer to dry, allowing more time for dust to settle in the finish.
Sand the dust particles (lightly) out of the current finish - Clean up the cabinet and room and spray again.
