My furnace will click on then run for 5 seconds, then it will stay off for a few seconds, then on again then off. It will do this foe several times then it may stay on for a couple of minutes then off for 20 seconds. Then it may come on and run until it grts close to the temp. desired, then off. We have a programmable thermostat. What could be wrong, is it the furnance or the thermostat? You can hear the furnance flame come on and off as well.

Thanks

Problem is more than likely in the furnace. Are the air filters clean? It could be a variety of problems, call your servicer.

If when your furnace comes on ignitor glows, then ignites and
flames goes out; your Flame Sensor might be going bad.
Good Luck!!!!
