I am thinking about refinishing my kitchen table. I would just like to stain it a darker color. Currently it looks like a lite or natural stain on pine wood. If I am going to make it darker do I need to completely strip the item or can something else be done?
thanks,
Jacque

Jacque:
Stain is made to work on wood. If there's a finish on the table at present, you'll need to strip it.
The alternative is using a glaze (a heavy bodied stain) which is normally used only to accent a piece to make it appear old. You can do an entire piece with it (without stripping), but the result would obscure most of the grain of the wood.

thanks George, this is a really cheap table set - there is no 'grain' per say to this piece. This option may work. Thanks again.
